Fellowship programmes at Cincinnati Children's Hospital

cincinnati-childrens-logo-sm
The Division of Pediatric Surgery at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center has established several training programs in which individuals participate in the broad clinical and academic experiences offered by specialized centers under the division. These positions are designed to be filled by general surgery trained individuals who come for one-year specialized experience, serving as fellows for one of several specialty centers, or trained pediatric surgeons who desire additional specialized experience.
The goal of these positions is to enable the trainees to gain expertise in specialized areas, which will enhance their opportunities for application for more formal general pediatric surgical fellowships in the future. For those individuals who have already completed training in pediatric general surgery, the program will enhance their expertise in specialized surgeries in anticipation of a sub-specialization in one of these areas.
The following non-accredited fellowship training programs are available:
Please note these programmes are clinical posts and therefore require passing the USMLE exams.

Position in Christchurch Hopital, New Zealand

healthfirst-nz
canterbury
A position is currently available in New Zealand for a British-trained paediatric surgeon, either towards or at the end of training. It is at the Senior Registrar or Junior Consultant level for (usually) one year, but negotiable for a shorter or longer period. This is a new position and is not yet filled for 2009. It would be ideal for a person towards or at the end of training, about to apply for a consultant post in the UK who would like a bridging period of overseas work in an active and supportive unit.

The Christchurch-based paediatric surgical unit provides a service to the whole of the South Island of New Zealand, draining a population of almost 1 million people. About half the patients live within an hour from Christchurch. There are currently three consultants (Spencer Beasley, Kiki Maoate and Russell Blakelock) and one RACS SET trainee. There is a house surgeon and 2-3 trainee interns at any one time. The unit has an extensive outreach programme, including to the South Pacific, and is renowned for its laparoscopic work. There would be opportunities for clinical research.
